Backdating pension credit
This process is not backdating, it is what the law says must happen when you apply.
You will need to state the reason you would like you claim to be backdated and explain the reason you were unable to apply earlier.
Housing benefit or council tax reduction is usually paid from the Monday after we get your claim form.
If you can show ‘good cause’, we may be able to pay your benefit earlier than this. Good cause must be continuous for the period you want benefit backdated for.
If you have a partner, and your joint income is less than £226.50, then you should also qualify for Pension Credit.
Together with this, there is the possibility - if you are now sixty five or over, that you could also get a further sum if you have 'saved' towards your retirement. Everyone who has reached the Pension Credit Qualifying Age in the UK is entitled to Pension Credit, so yes, if you are on pension credit you are allowed to work, but it will affect and added Pension Credit you might have received! Guarantee Pension Credit simply guarantees that you will get £151.20 per week if you are a single person, and £230.85 if you are living with a partner.
